WhatsApp GB

WhatsApp GB

This blog post will demystify what GB WhatsApp is and what is it is used for, its features and the risks posed by using unapproved Google Play apps on your android phone. I am in no way condoning the use of such apps on your phone as it may expose your device to unintended risks which you will bear at your own risk

GB WhatsApp is a modified alternate android to the official WhatsApp Android app(I say Android as there is no Apple version – yet) and has features that aren’t available in the original app. As it is not an official android app, it is not found in the Google Play Store as it does not pass certain standards of security and privacy in order to be approved. Therefore, the fact that it isn’t available in the store means that it does not follow Google’s rules to be able to be included in the official store.

As GB WhatsApp uses the source code from the WhatsApp app, but without an official license, it is, therefore, a modified version. That means there is no way to verify whether the software is safe and free from viruses, backdoors or malware.

This means that

  • Your contact list is exposed
  • End to end encryption may be eliminated
  • Confidential user information could be accessed.
  • Data and the contents of conversations could be intercepted
  • There is a possibility of malicious code or viruses
  • There is a danger that the application might be detected by WhatsApp, causing the user to lose the ability to use the original app.

So why do people use GB WhatsApp instead of the official WhatsApp app? WhatsApp Gb has many additional “extra” features that the official does not have. These are

  • Improved privacy options
  • Dual/Multiple WhatsApp accounts
  • Option to hide last viewed
  • Option to hide message delivered
  • Option to hide read receipts
  • Option to hide last seen for specific contacts
  • Uses a group name of up to 35 characters
  • Use a status with up to 255 characters as opposed to the traditional 139 characters
  • Send broadcasts to 600 people, rather than 250 people
  • Distinguish between normal messages and bulk messages
  • Establish more than three chats
  • Message Scheduler
  • Auto-reply of messages
  • Hide writing status
  • Hidden chat feature
  • Hide recording status
  • Audio share up to 100MB
  • Change the notify-bar icon
  • Change video player
  • Share more than ten photos simultaneously
  • Video status limit to 7 minutes instead of 30 seconds can be shared

Bottom line there is no safe way to use GB WhatsApp as one does not know the source of the app nor what risks it will expose your device to. It is not advisable to use such an app on devices where you have confidential or important data or use online banking as such information may be passed on to the developers of the app. Meta(the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) may ban you from using any of their apps
